This discussion has two parts.

Part 1: For this discussion, you should first engage in a card sorting task, using the multimedia activity introduced in the first study of this unit and linked in the Resources. This task will help you decide what’s important to you. It will help you sort out what you want to emphasize and pursue in your professional career. There will be 25 activities and values to choose from and you will narrow that pool of 25 down to five.

After you have engaged in this task, for your initial discussion post, write a paragraph listing your five most important activities and values and describing why these five activities and values are so important to you. Then write a second paragraph about how you plan to incorporate them into your life as a professional counselor. This discussion can be written in first person.

There is a quote that goes “Life is too short to be living somebody else’s dream.” I don’t want to work for someone else the rest of my life helping them to live out their dream of being who they are. I’d like to live out my dream.  Being my own boss is important to me.  I’m in a position where I feel like I’ve discovered my passion… something I believe I’ve been put on this Earth to do.  This position that I am in, is not just for me, it helps so many.  From what I can tell, this is not a job that is going to make me loads of money however, that’s okay, because it is not money that drives me.  What drives me is the idea that I can make a difference in someone’s life.  I can be a part of something that help people break negative patterns /behaviors that have been around for generations in theirs families- that they have decided “the buck stops here” and in turn breaking those patterns and behaviors can help them discover a whole different life for themselves.  All of this- being my own boss, living out my own dream, being an influencing force in peoples’ lives, doing meaningful work will all allow me to grow as a person.  I am sure along the way I will become more self aware of things that I may personally need to change, or develop.  I am grateful for this position

I’ve mentioned in the past that I plan on joining my local NAMI group.  This summer I will make space for that in my schedule.  I plan on attending CEU’s and conferences that will put me in position to be in a space with like minded individuals, which I believe will help me grow personally and professionally as a counselor.

Some have said to feel as if the “Clean Needle Exchange Program” is contributing to the usage of drugs and deaths.

Some have said to feel as if the “Clean Needle Exchange Program” is contributing to the usage of drugs and deaths. If a needle cannot be found or is dirty it is less likely to be used to get an individual high, this has been one of the biggest arguments that I have heard about this program I feel it helps to save people).  When it comes to needle usage, what measures should be taken other then providing this program, handing in needles that are used and getting fresh ones to shoot up with Do you feel that this program contributes to drug use and overdosing or helps to prevent and end it
